Six out of 10 UK adults are overweight or obese, and according to a recent study, only 10 percent of Brits who are clinically obese realise they are, preferring to describe themselves as “average” or “a bit overweight”. Whether you’re looking to lose a couple of pounds, change what you eat or understand your relationship with food, Dr Michael Mosley has several diet plans to help you out. For those looking to achieve rapid weight loss, the expert can turn your clothes from being too tight, to baggy in just 21 days. 
Dr Michael teamed up with Channel 4 to create a three-part series ‘Lose a Stone in 21 Days with Michael Mosley’ back in 2020. 
Speaking about the premise of the show, Dr Michael said: “The idea is that we take a group of people who have piled on the pounds during lockdown and help them shed that excess weight by putting them on a rapid weight-loss diet. 
“Calorie consumption is limited to around 800 to 1,000 calories a day, and it’s based on a healthy, low-carb, Mediterranean-style way of eating.” 
Five people who had put on a lot of weight were chosen “to lose a stone and shed the lockdown pounds”.

Dr Micahel explained: “This may sound like a crash diet, but it’s based on a lot of good-quality scientific studies. 
“Low-calorie diets like this have been piloted by the NHS in a bid to tackle obesity. 
“Our volunteers wanted to see results, fast. 
“We wanted to make sure the weight loss was safe and sustainable.”

He continued: “Our goal was not only to help them lose weight but also to improve their overall health, including their metabolic health. 
“While we’ve been repeatedly told rapid weight-loss diets are dangerous and ineffective because you just put all the weight back on again, this is not borne out by the latest research. 
“Recent studies show that, if done properly, not only are people who lose weight fast more likely to hit their targets, but they are also more likely to keep it off in the long term.” 
That being said, Dr Michael suggests talking to a doctor before starting a rapid weight-loss diet.

As for what you can eat when embarking on an 800-1,000 a day calorie consumption, the Fair 800 website has lots of delicious recipes. 
The recipe serves one, takes four minutes to prepare and 15 minutes to cook. 
There are 343 calories per serving. 
Half a tbsp olive oil
Half a tsp ground paprika
Half a tsp ground cumin
Half a tsp ground turmeric
A quarter of a tsp chilli flakes
70g kale, hardy stems removed and leaves shredded
Half a courgette, (approximately 75g) chopped
Five baby mushrooms, sliced
50g raw spinach leaves
Two large free-range eggs
Vinegar
Half an avocado, mashed
Salt and pepper to season Michael Mosley diets1. Place a large frying pan. Cook for approximately seven minutes, or until the kale turns soft. Now add the mushrooms and cook for another five minutes. Finally, add the spinach, turn off the heat and stir through.
2. Meanwhile, poach the eggs. To do this, pour cold water into a large saucepan until approximately eight centimetres deep. Add some vinegar to the water. Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat to low so it simmers slightly. Crack an egg into a shallow bowl. Using a wooden spoon, stir the water to create a whirlpool. Tip the egg into the water. Cook for two to three minutes for a soft yolk, or three to four minutes for a firm yolk. Using a slotted spoon, remove the egg from the water. Repeat with the other egg.
3. Place the greens into a large bowl, add the mashed avocado and top with the poached eggs. Season with salt and pepper and enjoy.
