The thought of exercise can be daunting for some but an expert has revealed fitness doesn’t have to be a “chore”. And for those with weight loss goals, a low-impact, cross-training programme could be a great option.
Barre is a form of strength training that combines elements of ballet and pilates and it leaves no muscle untouched.
Through small range movements and high repetitions, it can:
Build lean muscle
Increase metabolism
define and elongate limbs
Improves posture
Increases flexibility
Enhance mental resilience and mind-body connection

EvolveYou barre trainer Emily Chadwick-Vint, told Express.co.uk: “It strengthens your core like nothing else and is famous for building a peachy bum due to its ability to work muscles other forms of training don’t reach.
“Also, due to its high intensity, barre results come very quickly with consistency.
“You’ll be burning calories for hours after you leave the mat!”
She explained this is because barre increases endurance and metabolism, therefore burns calories at rest.

“Basically, barre turns you into a metabolic machine!” she added.
People can burn up to 300 calories per hour.
The method breaks down muscle fibres in order to re-generate longer, leaner muscle.
This is how the method can help to create a leaner and more defined aesthetic.
And it’s not just for professionals either – Emily revealed it’s an ideal exercise regime for everyone as it’s kind on the joints.

“There is a big misconception that barre is ‘like ballet’ but it is also important to note that this is not the case at all and you don’t have to be a dancer to try it.
“It was originally created by an injured ballerina as a rehabilitation method but is actually strength focused and accessible to everyone regardless of fitness level, coordination or flexibility.”
She explained that due to its individuality, barre can remind people that fitness doesn’t have to be a “chore”.
“It targets muscles that other training styles don’t hit which is incredibly powerful,” Emily said.
“No muscle goes untouched and you’ll be standing taller with improved posture and improved confidence.
“I’ve always said that barre is a beautiful fusion of grace and GRIT and that’s why I love it, I always leave a barre workout feeling both elegant yet strong and light yet powerful.”
Barre workouts are a great cross-training option to combine with other training styles like running, cycling or weight lifting because they strengthen the joints and muscles needed for these exercises without being too stressful on the body.
