EASTERN NY BENEFIT TRACTOR PULL: The fifth annual Eastern NY Benefit Tractor Pull is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24 and 10 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25 at the Schaghticoke Fairgrounds. All proceeds form the pull benefit local Disabled American Veterans Chapter 158 (Washington, Warren and Saratoga counties) and Chapter 38 (Renselaer County) General admission is $10 for adults. MONTHLY INDOOR & CRAFT SALE: On Sunday, Sept. 25, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. the popular Elks Ladies Auxiliary Indoor Craft and Garage Sale will take place at the Saratoga-Wilton Elks Club off Maple Avenue on Elks Lane. YADDO GARDEN GHOST TOURS: Ghost tour drop-in tours of the Gardens at Yaddo are offered on Fridays and Sundays, from Sept. 16 through Oct. 30, with no tour on Sept. 30, Oct. 2 and Oct. 7. VIN LE SOIR: As people begin thinking of the upcoming season of giving, AIM will host its eighth annual Vin Le Soir: A Night in Florence, to raise funds for families facing additional needs and challenges as the holidays and frigid winter months approach. AIM Services, Inc. is one of the area’s largest service providers for people with developmental and intellectual disabilities and acquired brain injury. Events like Vin Le Soir are crucial for AIM to raise funds and awareness for the critical services it provides.Scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at Longfellows in Saratoga Springs Vin Le Soir: A Night in Florence is designed to create a warmth that is inspired by great company, delicious food, distinctive wines and doing good. The event will feature musical entertainment by Fresh, chef-curated foods by Longfellows, wine tastings by Brian the Wine Guy, and a brief presentation and heartfelt video by AIM staff. Appolo Heating and Cooling is offering to install a $15,000 HVAC System to one lucky winner from a raffle that will be drawn on Oct. 27. STRESS REDUCTION PROGRAM: Join us for the Saratoga Stress Reduction Program, an eight-week course in mindfulness based meditation and stress reduction beginning September 24th “in person” at Caffe Lena. The Saturday morning sessions are held 8 – 9:30 a.m. and run Sept. 24 through Nov. 12 and provide instruction in formal mindfulness meditation methods including a body scan, gentle yoga, sitting and walking meditation. The practices offer students a means of self-regulation and encourage greater awareness. Students learn to reduce symptoms of psychological and somatic distress and gain the ability to respond to challenges with less reactivity and greater clarity. The course also provides instruction in informal practices such as being in nature and eating with awareness. Midway through the course, students learn about the physiology of stress and how it relates to their reactivity patterns. Using the latest scientific research, they explore how the act of mindful noticing activates innate internal resources that can change our perception of daily events, including stressful ones. This altered appraisal allows students to use a broader range of both internal and external responses so that they need not remain locked in stressful patterns. Our credentialed instructors have taught locally, nationally, and internationally for over 10 years. We have taught over 100 classes in Saratoga with 3000+ graduates and are delighted and grateful for the opportunity to have Caffe Lena as our host venue. THE WAY WE WERE CAR CHOW: Downtown Ballston Spa will soon become a classic car enthusiast’s dream. The Ballston Spa Business & Professional Association has begun preparations for its 20th Annual “The Way We Were” Car Show taking place Sunday, October 9th on Front Street. The fall favorite event typically draws over 400 show cars and organizers are anticipating a large turnout for the milestone 20-year anniversary of the show. In addition to all of the cars and trucks, there will be food and merchandise vendors, a kid’s zone with a bounce house and activities, live music and a trophy presentation at the end of the day. GIVE-BUY-GET BACKPACK PROGRAM: Ocean State Job Lot (OSJL), the region’s premier discount retail chain with 148 stores across the Northeast, is pleased to announce the return of its “Buy-Give-Get” backpack program to help students in need prepare for the upcoming school year. OSJL’s “Buy-Give-Get backpack program for 2022 is underway. Any customer who buys a select backpack at OSJL for $15.00 and gives it back to the store as a donation to children in need, will get a $15.00 “Crazy Deal” Gift Card to be used for a future purchase. 30,000 backpacks are available to purchase as part of the program and will be distributed to students in need across the region in partnership with the USA Veterans and Military Support Foundation as well as various support agencies and state police departments across the region. FLAG DROP OFF: The Waterford Harbor Farmers Market will once again accept torn or worn American Flags for transport to the Saratoga County Veterans Agency for proper disposal. The market is open every Sunday (now until mid-October) from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and is located at the Hurst Harbor Visitor Center, One Tugboat Alley in Waterford. According to the U.S. Flag Code, “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way….” and the Veterans Agency regularly arranges a flag disposition ceremony. THERAPY DOGS READY FOR DUTY: Alliance of Therapy Dogs teams are ready for duty in the Capital Region. The certified therapy dogs are available to serve at schools, colleges, libraries, nursing homes, hospitals, airports and special events. FARMERS MARKET SEEKING VENDORS, VOLUNTEERS: The 2022 Ballston Spa Farmers’ Market, sponsored by the Ballston Spa Business and Professional Association (BSBPA), will run from June 11 through September 29, 2022. The markets will be held on Thursdays from 3-6 pm and Saturdays from 9 am-1 pm in Wiswall Park on Front Street, in the heart of downtown Ballston Spa. The markets have been serving the local community since 2003. Our mission is to bring together local farms and food/craft producers with consumers and to promote locally created products. ONLINE DIABETES SUPPORT GROUP: Cornell Cooperative Extension of Saratoga County will host an informal support group via Zoom for people with diabetes or prediabetes. SARATOGA SPRINGS CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS: Regular Saratoga Springs City Council meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. City Council meetings are held in the Music Hall at City Hall at this time. WINTER COAT DRIVE: Shelters of Saratoga has partnered with Fingerpaint to provide winter coats to anyone in need this winter. The 3rd annual “Take One, Leave One” winter coat drive was created as an easy way to provide warm coats for anyone in need one. The coat rack is centrally located in downtown Saratoga Springs in front of the Fingerpaint building at 395 Broadway. Community members wishing to donate are encouraged to hang gently used or new coats on the rack which will be available through the winter.

SURVIVORS OF SUICIDE SUPPORT GROUP: The “Further Along Survivors of Suicide” Monthly Support Group meets the second Tuesday of each month. The group is structured to meet the needs of people who have lost a loved one to suicide and who are approximately 18-24 months past the date of their loss. It is not designed for someone who is recently bereaved. Facilitators are peers who have attended AFSP’s (American Foundation for Suicide Prevention – AFSP.org) “Facilitating a Suicide Bereavement Support Group” training. There is no charge, but we encourage people to bring a treat to share or a book that would help someone else on their healing journey that we can include in our lending library. POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION SUPPORT GROUP: Albany Med’s Division of General Pediatrics will host a weekly Postpartum Depression Support Group for mothers and fathers struggling emotionally following the birth of a child. CONGRESS PARK TOURS: Live guided tours of Saratoga’s renowned Congress Park have resumed. The tours will run daily, Tuesday through Saturday at 1030 a.m. and will be led by experienced guides—several of whom have been giving the tours for more than 10 years. During the 90-minute walk, guests will hear the stories of the founding of the city and the park which dates back to 1792. They will also hear about the native Americans who lived in the area, how Frederick Law Olmsted designed the park and the contributions of Saratoga’s historical figures such as Gideon Putnam, Dr. John Clark, John Morrissey and Lucy Skidmore. CHAPMAN CHALLENGE: The Chapman Museum announces the “Chapman Challenge”, a series of “missions” that relate to the people, places, and events that have shaped the histories of Glens Falls and Queensbury. FARMERS MARKET: The Troy Waterfront Farmers Market (TWFM) is holding its Winter markets from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays indoors at the former Lansingburgh Price Chopper, More than 60 vendors will participate. For the previous 18 years, the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market held its winter market downtown in the Troy Atrium, which the organization leased from the owner. This winter will be the first time since its inception that the market will have a presence in Lansingburgh, Troy’s northernmost district. In accordance with New York State’s current COVID-19 guidelines, the Lansingburgh store will have a capacity of 200 at any one time. After counting the vendors and staff, the space will be able to safely accommodate approx. 120 customers at a time with ample room for social distancing. Customers can arrive any time during market hours. When the market reaches capacity, arriving customers will be asked to wait in line outside the store. Shopping from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. will be prioritized for seniors age 60+ and the immunocompromised. PARKING GARAGE OPEN: The Saratoga Springs City Center announced the opening of the new City Center Parking Facility. The new facility, located between Maple Avenue and High Rock Avenue, features secure covered parking for more than 620 vehicles along with a pedestrian bridge over Maple Avenue that leads into the City Center, four electric car charging stations, two green spaces and a rooftop area that can be utilized for parking and convention related events. Additionally, the garage has a security guard on premise during evening hours. The City Center Parking Facility offers a pay per park system, through which the first hour of parking is free. Each additional hour is $1, with a maximum of $15 per day. A limited number of yearly parking passes are now available for purchase from the Saratoga Springs City Center. Yearly parking pass holders will receive benefits such as covered parking, electric charging stations, video surveillance and overnight security on site. PRESERVATION FOUNDATION SEEKING VOLUNTEERS: Five years ago the Foundation, in partnership with the City of Saratoga Springs, completed a comprehensive restoration of the Spirit of Life & Spencer Trask Memorial. The restoration was comprised of the sculpture, masonry, and landscape which included the geraniums around the reflecting pool and plantings by the architectural surround, pond, Saratoga Arts building, and fence. Due to COVID-19, the City of Saratoga Springs was faced with budget cuts and reduced staffing. The Foundation is now looking for volunteers to help maintain the landscape of the Spirit of Life & Spencer Trask Memorial. A green thumb is helpful, but not required. SPAC LEARNING LIBRARY: Saratoga Performing Arts Center announced that it has unveiled its new Learning Library, created to bring free original arts educational content to students, families and educators at a time when previously scheduled in-school presentations and classes are not feasible due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of the Center’s mission to provide meaningful educational programming to the community while also supporting local artists, the videos and exercises feature more than 25 professional musicians and dancers who have been affected by the pandemic such as Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company, professional stepping company Soul Steps and Caroga Arts Collective, as well as former Broadway performers, composers and local storytellers. ART SUPPLIES NEEDED: Transitional Services Association (TSA) is proud to announce the launch of the Saratoga Art Pantry, a place to collect and store art supplies in an effort to advance art therapy. Studies have shown that art can help people through mental health difficulties, coping with stress, and feelings of isolation. Currently, the pantry is empty and money and supplies are needed. Transitional Services Association will continue to collect new or used art supplies and monetary donations at their administrative offices at 127 Union St. in Saratoga Springs between 9am and 5pm, Monday – Friday and via their website TSA-Inc.org. Donations may include, but are not limited to, acrylic paint, white glue, canvases and even home repair supplies such as caulk and spray paint. GALWAY TRAILMASTERS: The Galway Trailmasters are an active group of local snowmobile enthusiasts who work diligently to maintain our local trail system. With a membership, Club members pay just $45 per sled yearly to register their sleds with New York State. Non-Club members pay $100 per Sled. It’s easy to renew your club membership or join online. SARATOGA SPRINGS FREE/REDUCED PRICE SCHOOL MEALS: Saratoga Springs City School District has announced a free and reduced price meal policy for Saratoga Springs area school children. Households that meet the eligibility requirements are urged to apply for free and/or reduced price meals. Copies of the application forms are available at the principal’s office in each school. Applications may be submitted any time during the school year to Margaret Sullivan, School Lunch Program Director. MEAL DELIVERY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: The Saratoga County Office for the Aging is in need of volunteers to help deliver meals to homebound seniors in Saratoga County. This program helps many seniors age 60 and over remain independent in their own homes. Nutritious meals meeting the 1/3 RDA requirement are prepared, packed and ready for pickup at 10:30 a.m. Delivery takes about an hour. Training and orientation are provided. WORLD AWARENESS CHILDREN’S MUSEUM: The World Awareness Children’s Museum is the first and only children’s museum in the country with multicultural education as its core mission. For over 20 years, the Museum has provided children, families, members of the community, visitors and supporters an accessible and authentic opportunity to cross boundaries and explore, and has fostered curiosity and appreciation for the rich cultural diversity of humankind. The Museum was designed to instill at an early age, the principles of inclusion, acceptance and understanding through engaging, interactive activities and educational programming. The Museum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and houses more than 10,000 pieces of children’s art and donated objects from around the world in its collection.
