Crunch Fitness to open soon in Tallahassee – Tallahassee Democrat

What do a massage bed, a fitness studio, free weights and an indoor turf area have in common?
They can all be found inside a recently gutted Winn-Dixie that has been transformed into Crunch Fitness, the latest outpost of a gymnasium chain headquartered in New York City.
The new location, slated to open the last week of January, is nestled between the Griffin Heights and Forest Heights neighborhoods in Tallahassee at 1525 W. Tharpe St.
It claims to be the largest commercial gym in Tallahassee, bringing 100 jobs into the area, 50 of which need to be filled before opening day.
“We are excited to bring the Crunch brand to Tallahassee,” said co-owner Brian Hibbard about the $8 million, 55,000-square-foot facility that first broke ground in early November.
Hibbard and John Armatas, the other co-owner, already have opened 20 locations across the country, including a location in Gainesville and in the surrounding states of Georgia and Alabama.
Most of these locations are in college towns, said Calvin Armatas, the director of new club openings. Typically, they only open one large location in each market, so a second Crunch Fitness in Tallahassee is unlikely, they said.
Globally, Crunch serves over 1.8 million members with 400 gyms in 30 states, Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico and Spain.
Inside the Tallahassee facility are cardio, circuit and strength training equipment as well as a group fitness and cycle studio. For those looking to tan, there are beds and sunless spray options available, too.
The facility will be open 24 hours Monday-Friday, and 7 a.m.-9 p.m. on weekends.
Twenty local Tallahassee businesses have partnered with the new Tallahassee gym to offer discounts to members — a common practice for most Crunch Fitness facilities, Calvin said.

  1. Thank you for the sensible critique. Me & my neighbor were just preparing to do some research on this. We got a grab a book from our local library but I think I learned more from this post. I’m very glad to see such great information being shared freely out there.
