If you have been planning to lose weight for quite a while but haven’t really started yet, this is your time. On this International Day of Yoga, try to practice some easy, beginner-level yoga asanas which will not just help you lose weight but will also keep your mind healthy and increase your stamina.

It is important to also follow a healthy diet in order to achieve the best results. Yoga increases your mindfulness and improves your relationship with your body. Slowly you will automatically start seeking out healthy food instead of binging on unhealthy, fattening junk.
Yoga can also boost your metabolism and works as a great stressbuster. You may not immediately start shedding kilos with yoga because these beginner level poses are simple to perform and easier on your body. But once you get a hang of them, you can go on to perform more complex asanas and even power yoga to boost your weight loss process. Here are some great asanas to kick-start your yoga routine.
Yoga is about finding a healthy posture in anything and everything around us. One such asana is the chair pose, called Utkatasana in Sanskrit. This pose resembles the position of sitting on a chair, only you are the chair too! To perform this asana, you need to squat properly and keep your body still to resemble the shape of a chair. To perform Utkatasana, stand straight and keep your legs together and your arm straight above your head. Bend down in a squat position, as much as you can and hold for 30 seconds. Relax and repeat 10 times. Avoid this asana if you have a leg injury, back pain, or low blood pressure.

Bridge pose is perfect for those who are at a beginner level and don’t want to do just warm-up basics. Setu Bandha Sarvangasana is a back bending yoga pose which is easy to perform and helps in weight loss. It also improves your flexibility, digestion, tones muscle, regulates hormones, and improves thyroid levels. It also strengthens your back muscles and reduces back pain. To perform this pose, lay on your back, bend your knees and place your feet flat on the ground. Draw your feet towards your hips, keeping them parallel to each other.

Now lift yourself with your stomach towards the sky. Hold for 10 seconds, then relax and repeat a couple of times.
Adho Mukha Svanasana tones your whole body. Doing this asana can strengthen your arms, thighs, hamstring, core, shoulder and back muscles. Holding this pose and concentrating on your breathing engages your muscles, improves your concentration as well as blood circulation. To do this asana, lie flat on your stomach. Now slowly lift your upper body with your palms and make a mountain-like pose. Try to keep your entire feet on the floor. Inhale as you raise your body, hold, and then exhale while getting back to your original position.
