First-year students at the University of Alabama gathered Tuesday night at Bryant-Denny Stadium for a convocation that included the students forming UA’s logo on the field for a class photo.
The activities were part of UA’s Weeks of Welcome, a series of more than 30 events linked to Wednesday’s beginning of classes at the Tuscaloosa campus.
The goal of WOW is to help students find resources, build a sense of community at UA and have fun.
WOW began the first weekend of August with Kickoff on the Quad featuring games, activities and refreshments from Rita’s Italian Ice and Frozen Custard, followed by Self-Care Sunday: Fitness on the Quad, which featured free yoga and Zumba classes.
Other WOW events included a karaoke night, a spa night, glow-in-the-dark bingo, a pool party at the University Rec Center, a showing of “The Parent Trap” on a big screen at the Quad and Bama Jam, which featured a concert and food trucks.
The series of events concludes on Aug. 25 with Get On Board Day on the Quad. Get on Board Day offers students an opportunity to learn more about hundreds of student organizations, various UA departments and vendors in the community.
