The diet queen’s new autobiography will touch on some of the most surprising and private moments of her life
If you were on a diet in the 90s, the chances that it was the Rosemary Conley diet are high. Her Diet and Fitness club swept the nation, with women praising her low-fat, low-GI meal plans and exercise routines.
The 75-year-old businesswoman and author was born in Leicester and is most famous for her multi-million-pound weight loss empire. She became a household name after her book, The Hip & Thigh Diet, sold more than two million copies in 1988.
She then launched the Rosemary Conley Diet and Fitness Clubs in 1993. Joining Slimming World and what was then-Weight Watchers at the top, Rosemary's clubs offered women diet advice and access to aerobic workouts with trained instructors.

Rosemary's Diet and Fitness clubs boasted more than 170 exercise teachers running 2,000 weekly classes across the UK for more than 70,000 members. As an alternative to a gym membership, people rushed to sign up.
However, it wasn't to last and her business collapsed into administration in 2014. Now, the fitness guru is lifting the lid on her failures and successes as part of her new autobiography, Through Thick and Thin.

The book is expected to cover all of Rosemary's life, from her "sickly childhood" through to the collapse of her business empire and her subsequent broadcasting career. The fitness queen – who went on Dancing on Ice aged 65, regularly practices ballet and goes to the gym while managing a range of health conditions – has some fascinating insights on the importance of beauty and body image.
As a Dancing on Ice contestant, Rosemary was paired up with professional skater Mark Hanretty. She was the sixth celebrity to be eliminated and finished in 10th place.
Since her business went into administration in 2014, Rosemary has started her own health and wellbeing website. The video-based website hopes to share healthy and nutritious recipes and workouts that everybody.
